Capacity building

The JASMINE Project links social rating and assessment exercises to targeted individual training for MFIs to improve their risk management, strategic planning, governance, and management information systems

MFC has been the implementing partner for the JASMINE project, an innovative technical assistance program and funding facility in the European Union. Partner MFIs receive either social assessments or ratings (by Planet Rating and Microfinanza). Following this, MFC’s experts provide customized trainings to MFI staff and management to address the weaknesses revealed by the evaluation report. Trainings are organized around four focus areas, including: good governance, strategic planning, management information systems and risk management.

Since 2010, we have trained over 25 MFIs from 8 European Union Countries. Currently, MFC’s work focuses on building EU MFI capacity to comply with the new EU Code of Conduct.

The JASMINE (Joint Action to Support Microfinance Institutions in Europe) Project was launched in 2008 by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Investment Bank Group to develop microcredit in the EU.
