Goal: Build the capacities of local NGOs and MCOs with the goal of delivering financial education workshops to the poor

Financial Education for Low-Income Households in Russia

Duration: August, 2006 – July, 2007

Partner: Russian Microfinance Centre (RMC)

Financial education tool: “Plan Your Future” training module and “Financial Literacy for the Poor” (curriculum developed by Microfinance Opportunities and Freedom for Hunger)

Goal: Build capacity of selected partners to deliver financial education for low-income households in order to set favourable conditions to foster financial literacy levels among representatives of the target group

Goal: Improve financial capability of low-income households in Uzbekistan through starting a process of institution building, innovation and creating relevant infrastructure at local, regional and national levels

Objectives:   Raise awareness of key stakeholders  ·  Establish a first pool of local advisory points based on local partnerships  ·  Build local capacities to deliver financial literacy courses and social campaigns ·  Adapt existing financial education tools to the context of Uzbekistan  · Develop a national strategy and an action plan for financial education

Main activities:  · Undertake a mapping study and report findings, select local partners and stakeholders for the working group  · Organize regional orientation workshops to establish local advisory points  · Organize regional capacity building workshops  · Deliver workshops to the target groups  · Organize regional evaluation meetings  · Organize a policy working group to develop a national strategy on financial education  · Disseminate project results during the Central Asia Conference

Results: 817 low-income people trained ·26 local financial advisory points  · 30 trainers certified  ·  10 000 households targeted with a social campaign

Capacity Building of Local Trainers to Deliver Financial Education Training in Tajikistan

Duration: November 2010 - October 2011

Goal: Improve the financial capabilities of low-income households

Objectives:  ·  Build awareness of the need for financial education among development organizations and financial service providers  ·  Establish financial education delivery mechanisms  ·  Build the capacities of ICCO local partners to facilitate sustainable financial education services development

Main activities:  · Adapt the financial education tool to the context of Tajikistan  ·  Deliver training of trainers  ·  Deliver workshops to the target groups  ·  Organize regional evaluation meetings

Results: · 23 trainers capacitated from 13 organizations · 362 low-income people reached with trainings and 165 with couseling

Duration: November 2010 - October 2011

Goal: Improve the financial capabilities of low-income households

Objectives: ·  Strengthen the awareness of the need for financial education among development organizations and financial service providers in Kyrgyzstan  ·  Establish financial education delivery mechanisms  ·  Build the capacities of ICCO local partners to facilitate sustainable financial education services development  ·  Research the longer term influence of financial education training

Main activities: ·  Adapt the financial education tool to the context of Kyrgyzstan  ·  Deliver training of trainers  ·  Deliver workshops to the target groups  ·  Organize regional evaluation meetings  ·  Conduct an assessment survey

Results: · 16 trainers capacitated · 234 low-income people reached with financial education workshop/couseling · 45 outreach of evaluation study
